‘CA COULE DE SOURCE’

Objective of this project: Analyse the site at various scales. Find solutions to existing problems faced by the inhabitants.

Quarries usually bring a dark atmosphere where various types of pollution are present. My aim was to bring life and peace to this sick quarry.

My project is based on the assumption that the quarry will continue to be dug over the next few years, and which will increase the amount of rainwater accumulated in the holes. How to make good use of this water, how to preserve the identity of this quarry while keeping its raw and natural state and how to maintain the human relationship between the Malagasy people and this quarry were considered. That brought about the decision of creating a waterpark, a reservoir and a swimming area.

The project follows the topography and adapts itself to the existing site. It was designed in two different holes (one for the reservoir and the other for a waterpark).

The quarry’s strong topography collects rainwater through canals lightly dug in the ground. This water is then directed into a reservoir to be used by the population and farmers. The water from the overflow of the reservoir then flows to the swimming area.

This project also includes pathways, sculpted spaces, technical equipment, a first aid centre and changing rooms.
